Nokia files patent suits against Apple
As we all know that Nokia- the king of mobiles is making comeback in the mobile market, they are making it grand.With 35 patent lawsuit in the first slot , they are now filling new lawsuit of over 40 patents.
Following Nokia’s impasse with Apple over patents that saw the former file 40 lawsuits against the latter in 11 countries, the iPhone-maker has started pulling all Withings products from its online and offline stores.
Withings, a French company, and now a Nokia subsidiary, sells health-related accessories. It was acquired by Nokia in April for $190 million to be integrated into Nokia’s Digital health unit.
Finnish telecoms networks equipment maker Nokia said on Thursday it had filed a new set of patent lawsuits against Apple Inc in Asia, Europe and the United States. Nokia Corp had said on Wednesday it was suing Apple, accusing the iPhone maker of violating 32 technology patents. It said on Thursday it had now filed 40 patents suits in 11 countries.
Nokia’s patent license contract with Apple expires at the end of the year. This week, both sides have taken legal action – with Nokia accusing Apple of violating some technology patents and Apple complaining of being overcharged – suggesting a new deal will be hard to agree.
Nokia’s head of Patent Business, Ilkka Rahnasto, had this to say about the company’s complaints:
Through our sustained investment in research and development, Nokia has created or contributed to many of the fundamental technologies used in today’s mobile devices, including Apple products. After several years of negotiations trying to reach agreement to cover Apple’s use of these patents, we are now taking action to defend our rights.
